About
Jonathan Northwood is the pen name behind the Break Free series: a method for escaping the traps of the digital age, built from years of mapping how they work.
The series begins with a confession. Jonathan escaped an addiction of his own, the kind the modern internet is built to create, and he did it without shame and without white-knuckled willpower. He spent years mapping how these traps work, and he found the same pattern in every one of them. Every compulsion is a loop, and every loop is powered by attention taken while you are not looking.
The method fits in one sentence: you do not fight the trap, you see it. Each book in the series applies that idea to one compulsion, tracing the loop (cue, craving, response, reward) until the pattern is visible and the craving loses its grip. There is no detox phase and no streak to maintain. There is only the mechanism, understood. The method is a direct descendant of Allen Carr's Easyway approach, rebuilt for traps he never lived to see; the full lineage is written up here.

These loops are not a personal failing. Many are engineered deliberately, using the same variable-reward principle exploited in casino game design, to hold attention longer than intended. They function only while the mechanism stays unnoticed. If you are ready to look, open any book in the series and trace it.
